Things That Matter

Hola and Hello my beloved readers!!!

How have you been? Me? Well, I've been good. Life is just a bit crazy and I'm really waiting for April when the summer vacation will finally begin. I've got a flash fiction for you....

Things That Matter

Jameela Syed looked around her. There wasn’t one single person anywhere in the neighbourhood. Her fingers found the cold metal bars at the edge of the balcony. Looking down at the world from there, she chuckled as her eyes hit on her bike. She scratched it the day before when she was patrolling the town. Her father had agonised at her, an earful!

Looking at the skies beyond, an assuring feeling soothed her nerves from the azure sky. The sun was gentler than yesterday. Jameela’s hair flickered as a swirl of the cool breeze travelled south. The cumulus clouds made her feel like it was telling her a story of how a dolphin became friends with an elephant. It didn’t make sense. The innocence of assuming clouds as illogical characters never wore off her.

Jameela had many things to do. There were a thousand things that had to be done and yet, something held her close on the balcony. Stories flowed swiftly through her, different from the cyclones that usually storm inside her. She was on a challenge of writing a book within 100 days. But all that seemed to matter to her, was herself. At one point, she didn’t even matter. All that mattered was the universe. She stood there and everything that should have been done by now is disrupted. But that did not hit her consciousness.

She wished if she felt something. She couldn’t explain what she lacked. There was an empty space in her life that nothing ever truly filled. But when the sun set, Jameela Syed danced back into her house and started doing everything that she had to do. Everything mattered in the reality or imagination but, not everything matters every time.

I'll see you on February 5th with my IWSG post!

Señorida Anastasia

(Yeah.... my name should have been Jameela Syed)
