Valentine--A Poem
Valentine
It hasn't been so long since I've known,
Known how to breathe
A decade and a half is my life,
The life that I've been offered
It's beautiful alright
But sometimes I do seek a valentine.
There is a roof over my head
And a veil right below it
There's chocolate in the fridge
And roses on the flower post
And I thank God I have it
Still I do wish for a valentine.
One day I'll be leaning on my balcony rail
Certain as the rising sun
And somebody will hand me a coffee mug
Then we'll talk about the price of bread
And I'll thank God for everything
Everything that is my valentine
At least not for a long time
I'd rather not break a random heart
Never would I lie to my blood
Nor will I deceive my soul
So hang in there dear valentine
Till I come claim what's mine

ReplyDeletethis poem feels like a quiet pause…
ReplyDeletenot a loud kind of longing, but one that knows how to wait…
i loved how it finds beauty in ordinary things… coffee, conversations, simple days…
wanting love, yet choosing patience over rush… that honesty really stays with you…
it doesn’t chase a valentine… it trusts time to bring one…
