January 7 question - Is there anything in your writing plans for 2026 that you are going to do that you couldn't get done in 2025?

I'd actually thought that I'd have a good Instagram account with litterateur vibes and all. But things don't work well with me at all. I did try and start one but I couldn't get nowhere because I didn't have a phone and I had to go for my mom's. That wasn't a good option because my brother was also using it at that time.

It had taken a lot of effort to convince my parents to let me start Instagram and after that when I'd posted a video---with my face, voice and words---my mom just asked me not to. My parents are really good but they too like many others give in to the societal bullshit here(Kerala in India if you're wondering where)

I do have a lazy-tablet and a Chromebook but won't get a phone till I'm out of highschool---449 days more for it.

It's funny how parents just expect you to be things but won't let you reach your own expectations.

All I look forward is to write stories---even though they won't see daylight anytime soon.

I am excited for 2026---Football, movies, bitter-sixteen, and the last year at my hellhole of a school.

  1. Maybe it's a good idea you enjoy the real world a bit more while you're young. By the time you are an adult, social media will have changed yet again anyway.

  2. I understand your frustration. It's always hard to have external limitations that you can't control. I hope the rest of your school experience goes well and that you keep writing.

  3. Keep your head down, focus on your writing, focus on yourself. Right now feels like an oppressive, controlling prison, but soon it will open up and then you'll discover the world is wide-open, scary prison. ;-) But seriously, enjoy this time for what it is. Trust me, it's just a blink of an eye in the greater adventure of your life.

  4. I agree, to a point. Parents should treat teens a little more like adults in some ways, but restricting you from a phone is just them trying to keep you safe. Their intentions are good. There are a lot of dangerous people in the world who would take advantage of you if given the chance. Try not to hate your parents too much. Focus on your plans for life after high school. It's a hard season of life in some ways, but it's also very freeing. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  5. Hi, Rida! And you thought you were late visiting my blog! 😂. We are leaving tomorrow on a long visit in Honolulu, so we've been packing madly. I can feel your frustration pouring from your words. It's really hard to be in your mid teens and feeling parental restraints. I had very strict parents, but in retrospect I know they were trying to protect me from bad situations. Keep writing, keep dreaming. This time will fly by. Wishing you a wonderful 2026!

  6. You're not going to like this, but I would appreciate your parents helping you avoid a social media addiction. I understand your frustration too. It's such a balancing act! There's no correct answer, but I see the kids who are constantly on social media and how they struggle to be IN THE MOMENT, present in whatever circumstance they face. As and adult, I struggle with that. If I could cut out social media (without derailing our business pursuits), I would. In a heartbeat. I hope that helps soften the blow? The real world, life in the present is so much better than the one online.

  7. I prefer blogging to Instagram. I'm sure it has a lot to offer, but it's just a matter of taste. (I have one, so totally friend me next year! It's basically all author and blogger stuff, a are nearly all my follows.)
Thanks for visiting my blog. Keep writing!
